Hurricane Update

The resort fared extremely well during hurricanes Helene and Milton. The storm surge was light, and the minimal damage was confined to landscaping and a few other outdoor areas. No rooms suffered water damage.

In advance of the storms, the contractors were forced to leave the island temporarily, pausing the reconstruction work. They have since returned to the property and are back to work. Vacatia and the board will continue to track the contractors’ work to ensure the renovation progresses.

Thank you for your patience. We’ll provide another update in the next few weeks.

Hurricane Update

Less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene caused damage throughout the southeastern U.S., Hurricane Milton made landfall on Florida’s west coast on October 9. If you live in this major storm’s path, we hope you and your loved ones are safe. Our thoughts are with you.

In the days leading up to the storm, we closely monitored the situation and worked with our on-site contractors to lock down Lighthouse and minimize any further damage to the construction site.

It is likely that we will be able to access the resort in the next few days. Once we do, we will assess the situation and report back to you.

Please rest assured that Vacatia and the Lighthouse board will address any recent hurricane-related impact to the property. Thank you and stay safe.

Reconstruction Update
January 10, 2024 •LHRC Design: The Design Committee forwarded the results of the recent owner survey to our architect to incorporate into the preliminary design drawings. The architect is expected to complete the schematic design at the end of January. Once final plans are agreed to and voted on, they will be used to solicit bids for the reconstruction phase of the project. •Roofing Contract: Trademark Restoration is waiting for the final permit approval from the City of Sanibel. Upon receipt, they will begin work and expect to finish in four to five weeks. •Electric Service: Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) expects to begin replacement of our transformers and main service in the next couple of weeks. We are exploring converting to a single electric meter and using two main distribution panels instead of 30 separate meters for our service distribution. This will help protect our main electrical distribution from flooding. LCEC’s estimate should be presented to the board by January 11. •Site Survey: Haley Ward expects to have the site survey completed by January 10. •Building Backgrounds: Preliminary backgrounds are expected to be completed and sent to the architect this week. Elevations should be completed in about two weeks. •Mechanical Testing: We are obtaining quotes for testing the air-conditioning systems. •Storm/Sanitary Flushing and Scoping: We are obtaining quotes to power flush and videotape all of our underground storm and sanitary piping. With the foundation scouring and lines flooded, this will ensure the existing systems we are connecting to are fully functional. If we do find damage, it can be repaired as part of the design documents. •Civil/Site Engineer: We are requesting proposals from three site/civil engineers for parking, tennis courts, pool, spa, landscaping, decks, walkways, fencing, irrigation pavilion, barbecue area, and all other site-related work. •Pool: Leak testing on the plumbing will be performed January 10.
